05 Jan, 2010 , Agi Music – a leading Malaysian record label and music publishing company – announced their partnership with Ilaiyaraaja – India’s leading music producer, lyricist and composer. As per the announcement, Agi Music has the rights to administrate all of Mr. Ilaiyaraaja’s works of before the year 2000, in all areas and platform including broadcasting including radio broadcasting, synchronization usages, mechanical usages, mobile contents and internet downloads.
Announcing this deal, Mr. Agilan, CEO, Agi Music said, “We would like to inform that Agi Music is the only sole licensee for Ilaiyaraaja’s contents in all format including digital, MP3, ringtones, new media and other as well. Agi Music is representing him and administrating his composition for entire world including India, Malaysia and Singapore. Agi Music also member of Music Authors Copyright Protection (MACP) in Malaysia, which are the international representive and licensee for public performance usage of Ilaiyaraaja’s work especially in TV Channels, Radio Channels and Concerts.”
According to Ilaiyaraaja, “Movie producers and music composers are advised not to use my songs and background scores (including remixes) of before the year 2000, without prior permission and licensing. It is also mandatory for advertisement agencies, TV Channels and TV Serial producers to take proper license and permission from Agi Music to using my songs in their productions or programs. Agi Music has the rights to administrate all of my work before the year 2000, in all areas and platform including broadcasting.”
“I would like to inform that I have entered into a licensing agreement with Agi Music for manufacturing and distribute my songs in any format and also granted the license to distribute my songs into digital and new media formats including ringtones, caller tunes and online download.” adds Ilaiyaraaja.
“There are few record labels violating the copyright of my songs by releasing it especially in digital formats and new media formats without my permission. Sound Recording Rights and Music Publishing Rights (which is also known as Intellectual property rights) of most of my music especially those before year 2000 are belongs to me as I am the composer and copyright owner of my music. Contrary to Indian practice these rights does not belong to the film producers and consequently no producer has the authority or right to distribute these rights.”
